Abstract

Bioremediation is regarded as an economical and environmentally sustainable approach for degrading total petroleum hydrocarbons in contaminated soils.However,due to limited oxygen in the soil,microbial activity is restricted and remediation periods are prolonged,which limits the broader application of bioremediation.This study examined the effect of humic acid derived from kitchen waste composting products at various composting stages on the microbial degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in soil.After 35 days of incubation,the degradation rate of petroleum hydrocarbons in the H-28 group(H-28),with composted KWCP reached(79.82±1.03)%,with a half-life of 14.9 d,while the CK group(without KWCP)showed only(41.13±0.05)%degradation and a half-life of 46.3 d.This enhanced degradation was primarily attributed to the high concentrations of phenols and quinones in the 28-day(H-28)compost product,which exhibited superior redox capacity.This capacity significantly improved the activity of dehydrogenase and catalase in petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.Therefore,humic acid in kitchen waste compost products can serve as an effective activator to improve the remediation efficiency of petroleum hydrocarbon-contaminated soil.
