Metaverse studios from a typological perspective:Diverse forms,operational mechanisms,and paradigm transformation

Abstract
This paper systematically examines the conceptual connotations,typological forms,and technical architecture of the metaverse studio,and explores its implications for virtual production in film and television,as well as the industrializa-tion upgrading of the film industry.Through a systematic review and thematic analysis of 21 core literature published be-tween 2011 and 2026,the study identifies five types of studio configurations,which are educational,industrial,performa-tive,co-creative,and conceptual.It finds that extended reality(XR),blockchain,AI agents,and avatar interfaces constitute the core technological underpinnings,collectively enabling scenarios such as immersive collaborative production and the creator economy,and reveals a closed-loop driving relationship among type,technology,and application.The research fur-ther points out that current virtual production for film and television,centered on LED virtual stages and real-time rendering engines,essentially constitutes a cinematic metaverse studio,which can be explained within the aforementioned frame-work.However,this field still faces challenges such as technological fragmentation,a lack of empirical research,and ethi-cal deficiencies.Based on these findings,this paper constructs a three-dimensional analytical framework integrating tech-nological infrastructure,collaborative mechanisms among agents,and ethical governance systems,providing theoretical references for the intelligent upgrading of the film industry.关键词
