Abstract
The development of safe and green additives for feed has become a key issue for the animal husbandry with the increasingly prominent problems of bacterial resistance,drug residues and environmental pollution caused by the abuse of antibiotics.Houttuynia cordata has significant antibacterial,anti-inflammatory,and immunomodulatory effects,making it an ideal green additive for feed to replace antibiotics.This article re-viewed the functional characteristics of bioactive components rich in Houttuynia cordata including volatile oils,flavonoids,polysaccharides,alkaloids,etc.,which stabilize the gut microbiota,enhance the barrier function of gut,inhibit inflammation and bacteria,regulate immune-related molecules and inflammatory signaling path-ways in livestock and poultry based on the framework of"active components of Houttuynia cordata-biological functions-application in breeding livestock and poultry".The extraction and main effects of different active components were elucidated as well.The crude extract of Houttuynia cordata or its combination with other tra-ditional Chinese medicines(TCM)as compound additives can be added to feed for livestock and poultry,and has preventive and therapeutic effects on diseases in pigs,cattle,sheep and chickens.It can significantly im-prove the immunity,growth and reproduction performance of livestock and poultry,and alleviate diarrhea in piglets,treat mastitis in pigs,cattle and sheep,and protect the gut health of poultry.In the future,studies should focus on analyzing the patterns of absorption and metabolism and specific targets of active components in Hout-tuynia cordata in livestock and poultry,breaking through technical bottlenecks including stability,palatability,and quality control of active components,improving standardized plans for application to provide theoretical support for the promotion of industrializing Houttuynia cordata as green additives for feed,and facilitating the efficient,healthy,and sustainable development of animal husbandry.关键词
