Comparison and Improvement of Various Methods for Determining GNSS Geoid Heights Based on the Earth's Gravity Field

Abstract
The determination of GNSS geoid heights plays a crucial role in achieving true three-dimensional GNSS positioning.This paper systematically evaluates the accuracy of geoid height calculation methods related to the Earth's gravity field,including the gravity field model method,gravity potential difference method,and gravity da-tum method,under different terrain conditions.The paper focuses on analyzing the impact of different geoid refer-ence surfaces on the accuracy of the gravity potential difference method,and proposes an improved version of the gravity datum method based on the original approach.The results show that each method varies in terms of preci-sion and applicability.In the case studies presented,the geoid height calculations based on the gravity field models EGM2008 and XGM2019e yielded RMSEs of 0.130 2 and 0.108 8 m in region 1,and 0.354 6 and 0.193 0 m in regions 2,respectively.For the gravity potential difference method based on the 1985 national height datum and its regional height datum,the RMSEs in region 1 were 0.109 6 m and 0.100 3 m,respectivelty,while those in region 2 were 0.227 7 and 0.222 3 m,respectively.When using the gravity potential difference method based on the glob-al mean sea level(GMSL)and its regional height datum,the RMSEs in region 1 were 0.384 5 and 0.099 3 m,and in region 2 were 0.096 5 and 0.092 0 m,respectively.The improved gravity datum method resulted in an RMSE of 0.035 9 m for geoid height differences in region 1,showing a slight improvement compared to the 0.036 1 m RMSE obtained with the gravity potential difference method.关键词
