Abstract

Taking Shanmei Reservoir in the Jinjiang River Basin,southeastern China,as the study area,this study retrieves the dynamic variations in water surface area,water surface elevation,and storage volume of Shanmei Reservoir from August 2023 to April 2025,using observation data from the L2-HR-LakeSP product of the next-generation SWOT satellite.The results show that:(1)The water surface elevation retrieved by the SWOT satellite is highly consistent with in-situ monito-ring data(both R2 and NSE exceed 0.99,RMSE=0.264 2 m),demonstrating high accuracy;(2)The observed water surface elevation and water surface area of Shanmei Reservoir are relatively low(average 86.05 m)and small(average 15.43 km2)from March to May,and relatively high(aver-age 92.02 m)and large(average 16.69 km2)from June to November,indicating significant sea-sonal variations at the monthly scale;(3)The storage volume of Shanmei Reservoir ranges from 2.44×108 to 4.36×108 m3,and the response of storage volume to basin net precipitation exhibits a one-month lag(r=0.74,P<0.001).This study validates the reliability of the SWOT satellite in monitoring the hydrological dynamics of Shanmei Reservoir and provides new data support for the hydrological information retrieval of large reservoirs in southeastern China.
