Abstract

To improve the sensitivity and the response range for wearable piezoresistive sensors,the melamine foams were employed as a precursor to fabricate porous carbon foams via a low-cost,time-efficient one step carbonization strategy,followed by assembling flexible sensors.The microstructure,mechanical properties,and piezoresistive sensing performance of the sensors were systematically evaluated.The results showed that the lightweight and compressible carbon foam sensors exhibited a three-dimensional open-cell network architecture,interconnected by carbon skeleton.They demonstrated exceptional compressive resilience and cyclic stability,bore up to 80%strain while maintaining structural integrity;and they distinguished pressure accurately,var-ying from 7.90 to 190.5 kPa,with rapid response/recovery.The developed sensors also presented superior sensitivity,maintaining stable current response signals under 4 000 consecutive loading-unloading cycles.The findings demonstrated that the flexible carbon-foam sensor has a potential application value in human health monitoring,particularly for long-term real-time monitoring of physiological movements and integration into wearable devices.
