Abstract

In this study,a poly(butylene fumarate)(PBF)with favorable fluidity and appro-priate molecular weight was designed and synthesized.The PBF was crosslinked with 2-hydroxyethyl acrylate(HEA)monomer under ultraviolet irradiation to form a cured network.The structure and properties of the product were characterized and investigated to explore its potential application as a medical bone adhesive.PBF was successfully synthesized from diethyl fumarate and 1,4-butanediol via a two-step reaction.Using different mass ratios of PBF and HEA as raw materials,the system materials were prepared by photo-curing.The PBF was characterized using FTIR,GPC,and 1H NMR.Meanwhile,the thermal stability,wetting per-formance,and gel content of the system materials were tested using thermogravimetry-differen-tial scanning calorimetry(TG-DSC),an automatic video contact angle meter,and a Soxhlet ex-tractor.Additionally,the in vitro degradation behavior and cytocompatibility of these materials was evaluated.The results show that the molecular chain of PBF is more flexible and has lower steric hindrance,which can form a uniform and stable cross-linked network more efficiently compared with polypropylene fumarate(PPF),and that photo-curing has the significant advan-tages of mild conditions,rapid reaction,and a short cycle compared with traditional thermal cu-ring.The system materials exhibited good thermal stability,hydrophilicity with water contact angles ranging from(66.93°±13.50°)to(88.23°±8.01°).The in vitro degradation results indicate that the weight loss rate of the cross-linked cured material fluctuated during a 12-week immersion period in phosphate-buffered saline(PBS).Notably,the material exhibited a maximum mass loss of approximately 17.40%.Furthermore,PBF/HEA materials can effec-tively promote the proliferation of MC3T3-E1 cells,confirming their excellent cytocompatibili-ty.The synthesized PBF/HEA material exhibits good degradability and cell compatibility,with potential applications in biomedical materials.
