Effects of Wenshen Jianpi Huatan Formula combined with electroacupuncture on lipid metabolism,body composition,and peripheral blood Asprosin and Irisin in overweight/obese patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome

Abstract
Objective To observe the effects of Wenshen Jianpi Huatan Formula combined with electroacupuncture on lipid metabolism,body composition,and peripheral blood Asprosin and Irisin levels in overweight/obese patients with polycystic ovarian syndrome(PCOS).Methods A total of 76 overweight/obese patients with PCOS were randomly assigned to two groups,with 38 patients in each group.The control group received conventional Western medical treatment,while the treatment group received Wenshen Jianpi Huatan Formula orally and electroacupuncture in addition to the treatment given to the control group.Both groups were treated for 3 months.Changes in menstrual score,body mass index(BMI),waist circumference(WC),hip circumference(HC),serum sex hormone levels(follicle-stimulating hormone[FSH],luteinizing hormone[LH],testosterone[T]),ovarian volume,follicle count,lipid metabolism indicators(total cholesterol[TC],triglycerides[TG],low-density lipoprotein cholesterol[LDL-C],high-density lipoprotein cholesterol[HDL-C]),body composition(body fat percentage[BF％],fat mass[FM],muscle mass[MM]),and peripheral blood Asprosin and Irisin levels were compared before and after treatment in the two groups.Results Finally,complete case data were collected from 73 patients:37 in the control group and 36 in the treatment group.After treatment,menstrual scores decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),and the post-treatment scores were lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,BMI,WC,and HC all decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05);BMI and WC were lower in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment(P<0.05),while no significant difference was observed in HC(P>0.05).The ovarian volume,and follicle count decreased in both groups after treatment compared with baseline(P<0.05),and endometrial thickness increased compared with baseline(P<0.05).The magnitude of change in endometrial thickness,ovarian volume,and follicle count was greater in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment,FSH,LH,and T levels decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),whereas E2 increased compared with baseline(P<0.05);post-treatment FSH,LH,and T levels were lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05),while E2 was higher in the treatment group(P<0.05).After treatment,TC,TG,and LDL-C decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),whereas HDL-C increased compared with baseline(P<0.05);post-treatment TC,TG,and LDL-C were lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05),while HDL-C was higher in the treatment group(P<0.05).After treatment,Asprosin levels decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),whereas Irisin levels increased compared with baseline(P<0.05);post-treatment Asprosin was lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05),while Irisin was higher in the treatment group(P<0.05).After treatment,FM and BF％decreased in both groups compared with baseline(P<0.05),and both were lower in the treatment group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Wenshen Jianpi Huatan Formula combined with electroacupuncture can effectively improve menstrual status in overweight/obese patients with PCOS,promote the conversion of white adipose tissue to brown adipose tissue,regulate lipid metabolism,and reduce body weight and body fat content.关键词
