Abstract

To investigate the effects of the sensitizer,isopropyl nitrate(IPN),and the high-energy metal powder,aluminum(Al),on the ignition characteristics of typical alkane fuel n-heptane/air mists,and to reveal their regulatory roles in the ignition sensitivity of fuel-air explosives(FAEs),synchronized spray-ignition experiments were carried out in a 6.28L explosion vessel.Pressure evolution and transient flame morphology during mist ignition were recorded.And the ignition characteristics of multi-phase mists formed by n-heptane blended with different proportions of IPN and Al were obtained.The results show that the minimum ignition energy(MIE)of n-heptane mist generally increases with increasing the equivalence ratio,exhibiting a nonlin-ear variation trend.The addition of IPN significantly reduces the MIE of the mixed mist,with the MIE decreasing by approxi-mately 14%,21%,and 10%for every 10%increase in IPN mass fraction,respectively.After the addition of Al to the n-heptane system,a small amount of Al(10%)reduce the MIE of the mist.However,when the Al mass fraction reaches 20%—30%,the increased proportion of solid particles leads to greater energy dissipation and insufficient air,causing the MIE to rise instead.The peak explosion pressure results indicate that all fuel mixtures reach their maximum values near the stoichio-metric equivalence ratio.Under the condition of φ=1.0,the maximum pressure rise rate of pure n-heptane mist is 22230kPa/s.After 10%or 20%IPN is added,the maximum pressure rise rate increases to 35920kPa/s and 59300kPa/s,respectively,but then decreases to 28384kPa/s when the IPN mass fraction further increases to 30%.After the addition of Al,the maximum pressure rise rate increases from 27482kPa/s to 44770kPa/s as the Al mass fraction increases from 10%to 30%.
