Abstract

Objective To address the problems existing in the teacher team of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)universities,such as an unstable foundation of teacher ethics,imbalanced professional competence,and a lagging training system,a coordinated development path for teachers'professional competence and teacher ethics is explored based on the characteristics of TCM education that emphasizes both in-heritance and innovation.Methods A mixed research method combining policy analysis and questionnaire survey was adopted.Twelve core policy documents were sorted out systematically,and an empirical survey was conducted among 213 teachers from TCM universities.The relationship between teachers'ethics and their professional competencies is analyzed using linear correlation analysis.Results Correlation analysis indicates that a positive correlation exists between teachers'ethics and all their professional competencies.The policy requirements for TCM teachers'professional competence,teacher ethics construction,and training were clarified.The current practical dilemmas,includ-ing occasional occurrences of teacher ethics misconduct,unbalanced professional competence of teachers,and insufficient pertinence of training,were revealed.A four-in-one construction path featuring"consolidating foundations through collaborative talent cultivation,em-powering via support systems,forging souls through teacher ethics mechanisms,and guiding with diversified evaluation"was constructed.Conclusion This path can effectively solve the core problems in the development of TCM teachers,a practical paradigm is provided for the pro-fessional development and teacher ethics cultivation of teachers in TCM universities,and the advancement of relevant strategies is facilitated.
