The Strategic Nature of National Security Studies:Connotation,Values and Disciplinary Boundaries

Abstract
[Purpose]This study aims to further clarify and delimit the research object of national security studies,so as to address its"overgeneralization"problem and thereby consolidate the theoretical foundation of the discipline.[Method]Through a literature analysis approach,this paper further clarifies the connotation and extension of the concept of"strategy"and applies it to the field of national securi-ty studies to illustrate its specific significance in this discipline.[Result/Conclusion]The essence of national security science is a strategic discipline,and its strategic attributes run through the four core dimensions:research object,research perspective,service object and disci-pline essence.The research object is vertically screened with political security as the yardstick,and the research perspective has global and macro strategic thinking,which can directly serve the highest decision-making of national security and has internal consistency with nation-al security strategy.This attribute not only provides a key criterion for clarifying disciplinary boundaries and resolving the misunderstand-ings of generalization and simplification but also builds a bridge between theoretical research and security decision-making.关键词
