Abstract

To address the challenge of mesoscale models'inadequate simulation of micro-scale wind fields over complex terrain,this study employs the WRF-CFD coupled model to enhance wind field prediction in the Chongli Mountain region.The meso-scale simulations serve as boundary conditions for the CFD model,with a key innovation in coupling methodology:transitioning from a geometric coordinate system to a terrain-following coordinate system to reconcile terrain discrepancies between the two models.Simulation results demonstrate that the terrain-following coordinate system yields more realistic wind speed distributions at the CFD boundary and significantly outperforms its geometric counterpart in accuracy.This improvement addresses a critical gap in existing modeling frameworks,providing a robust tool for wind energy resource assessment and microscale atmospheric dynamics research in mountainous terrains.The findings underscore the importance of coordinate system selection in coupled modeling approaches for terrain-constrained atmospheric simulations.
