Analysis of health human resources in Guangzhou hospitals based on structural variation degree(2015-2023)

Abstract
Objective To analyze the changes in the scale and structure of health human resources(HHR)in Guang-zhou hospitals from 2015 to 2023,providing evidence to inform the optimization of local health talent policies and serving as a ref-erence for other regions.Methods Using publicly available data from the Guangzhou Health Statistical Yearbooks(2015-2023),this study analyzed the multidimensional composition of hospital HHR—including personnel category,institution type,professional title,education level and clinical department—using the degree of structural variation(DSV)method.Results The number of healthcare technicians increased steadily surpassing the national average growth rate.Registered nurses had the highest DSV,followed by technicians,whereas pharmacists exhibited a negative growth trend.Private hospitals had faster HHR growth,though public hospitals remained dominant providers.Licensed physicians exhibited trends toward higher educational attainment,upgrading of professional titles,and an aging workforce,along with an increase in personnel awaiting title appointment.Among clinical departments,dentistry had the highest DSV,while notable mismatches between resource allocation and service demand were observed in emergency medicine and other departments.Conclusion Guangzhou has an adequate overall supply of HHR,but structural imbalances persist.We recommend dynamic adjustments to positions and professional titles,strengthening the phar-macist and technician workforce,and support the development of a high-level medical hub in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.关键词
