Potential implications of ketone bodies in treatment of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
摘要
Abstract
Currently,heart failure with preserved ejection fraction(HFpEF)is diagnosed in 50%of all heart failure cases and it has been recognized as a multisystem disorder characterized by high morbidity and mortality.Disap-pointingly,effective treatments for HFpEF remain elusive,in part,due to its complex pathogenesis.Recent evidence sug-gests that manipulation of ketone bodies could be a promising new avenue treatment for HFpEF,and that supplementation with ketone bodies could ameliorate myocardial mitochondrial hyperacetylation,alleviate inflammatory response,enhance antioxidant defense,improve microvascular function,and possibly even treat HFpEF comorbidity.In this review,we sum-marize the pathogenesis of HFpEF and discuss the possible mechanisms through which ketone bodies mitigate HFpEF symptoms,so as to raise the hypothesis that HFpEF may be effectively treated with ketone bodies.关键词
