A randomized controlled trial of effects of mindfulness meditation training on resilience in college students under acute stress

Abstract
Objective:To examine the effects of mindfulness meditation on resilience in university students un-der acute stress,providing evidence for stress management.Methods:Forty-eight college students were assessed for heart rate variability(HRV)under resting,acute stress,meditation,and repeated stress conditions.They were then randomly assigned to either an 8-week mindfulness meditation group(n=24)or a sham meditation group(n=24),with HRV re-evaluated under resting and acute stress conditions after the intervention.Mindfulness levels were evaluated at baseline,post-training,and 24-week follow-up.Results:No significant changes were observed in HRV indices between acute and repeated stress(P>0.05).After intervention,the meditation group showed a significant increase in the standard deviation of normal-to-normal intervals under acute stress(P<0.05).Both groups demon-strated significant improvements in mindfulness,sustained through follow-up(P<0.05).Conclusion:Eight weeks of mindfulness meditation training enhanced mindfulness levels and physiological resilience under acute stress,sug-gesting its potential as an effective strategy for stress management incollege students.关键词
