Effects of Mulberry Leaf Extract on Growth Performance,Antioxidant Capacity and Cecal Microbial Community of 817 Broilers

Abstract
This experiment was aimed to investigate the effects of dietary supplementation with different levels of mulberry leaf extract(MLE)on growth performance,antioxidant capacity,intestinal morphology and cecal microbial community of 817 broilers.A total of 120 one-day-old healthy male 817 broilers with similar initial body weight[(39.45±1.35)g]were randomly allocated into 4 groups with 5 replicates per group and 6 birds per replicate.The control group(CON)was fed a basal diet,while the other three groups were fed the basal diet supplemented with 0.4%,0.8%or 1.2%MLE,respectively.The experiment lasted for 42 days.The re-sults showed as follows:1)compared with the CON group,average daily feed intake(ADFI)of broilers in the 0.4%MLE and 0.8%MLE groups was significantly decreased(P<0.05),while dressing percentage was significantly increased(P<0.05);breast muscle percentage in the 0.8%MLE group was significantly in-creased(P<0.05),and liver index in the 0.4%MLE group was significantly decreased(P<0.05).2)Com-pared with the CON group,serum malondialdehyde(MDA)content in the 0.4%MLE,0.8%MLE and 1.2%MLE groups was significantly decreased(P<0.05);serum glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)activity in the 0.8%MLE group was significantly higher than that in the other three groups(P<0.05).3)Compared with the CON group,jejunal villus height and villus height to crypt depth ratio(V/C)in the 0.4%MLE group were significantly increased(P<0.05);jejunal crypt depth in the 0.8%MLE and 1.2%MLE groups was increased.4)Cecal microbial community analysis showed that,at the phylum level,Firmicutes and Bacteroidota were the dominant phyla in the cecum of broilers.Compared with the CON group,the relative abundance of Firmicutes was increased in the MLE groups.At the genus level,the relative abundances of Subdoligranulum and Para-bacteroides in the MLE groups were increased.In conclusion,MLE can improve the growth performance of 817 broilers by improving jejunal morphology,enhancing antioxidant capacity and modulating cecal microbial community structure,with the 0.8%being the optimal supplementation level.[Chinese Journal of Animal Nu-trition,2026,38(5):3374-3386]关键词
