A Textual Research on Kong Jigan,a Confucian Physician from the Qilu Region during the Qing Dynasty

Abstract
In the areas of Tengzhou,Qufu,Zoucheng and Jining in southern Shandong Province,the legend of"Kong Lingxian"is widely spread among the people,whose prototype is Kong Jigan,a Confucian physician during the Qing Dynasty.As the 69th descendant of Confucius,Kong Jigan passed the provincial civil service examination in the Dingyou year of the Qianlong reign.Originally educated in Confucianism,Kong Jigan began to study traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)classics such as Huangdi Neijing and Treatise on Cold Pathogenic Diseases and embarked on a medical career because his grandmother suffered from a long-term illness.Kong Jigan was superb in medical skills,especially good at treating difficult and complicated diseases,and achieved remarkable curative effects in the prevention and treatment of epidemic diseases,pediatrics,gynecology and other fields.Kong Jigan successfully cured the mental disorder of the son of the top scholar Sun in Jining and a woman suffering from smallpox in Zouxian,etc.Kong Jigan paid attention to syndrome differentiation and treatment in diagnosis,with prescriptions tailored to individuals,and often brought the dying back to life,so he was honored as"Lingxian".In his medical practice,Kong Jigan was noble in medical ethics,treated all patients equally and did not belittle peers,winning deep respect from his contemporaries.In his later years,Kong Jigan wrote Yijian Cao(also known as Kong's Medical Records or Yijian Cao).The book takes diseases as cases with detailed and precise discussion on syndromes,leaving a precious legacy for TCM theory and clinical practice.关键词
