Analysis of the current situation and influencing factors of alexithymia among medical staff in mental health welfare institutions

Abstract
Objective:To investigate the current status and influencing factors of alexithymia among medical staff in mental health wel-fare institutions in Xinjiang,and to provide a basis for improving their psychological health.Methods:A self-designed questionnaire and the Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS-20)were used to survey 515 staff members from six institutions,and the factors influencing alexithymia were analyzed.Results:The total alexithymia score for nurses(50.57±14.04)was higher than that for doctors(47.88±13.65),but the difference was not significant.In the dimension of difficulty identifying feelings,nurses'scores(14.63±6.46)were significantly higher than those of doctors(12.83±6.36)(F=3.034,P<0.05).Among doctors,the total alexithymia score of the divorced group was significantly lower than that of the un-married and married groups(H=6.45,P=0.04),while no significant differences were found based on age,education level,years of work,or profes-sional title(P>0.05).Among nurses,the 31～40 age group had the highest total alexithymia score(52.62±15.64),significantly higher than the 41～50 age group(46.86±13.07);the group with 6～10 years of work experience had the highest total score(48.71±17.87),significantly higher than the 1～5 years group(46.65±17.76);nurses with junior titles had the highest total score(52.43±16.56),significantly higher than those with intermediate(48.16±12.21)and senior titles(45.27±11.71)(P<0.05).No significant differences were found among nurses based on education level or marital status(P>0.05).Conclusion:The incidence of alexithymia is relatively high among medical staff in mental health welfare insti-tutions.Alexithymia among nursing staff is significantly influenced by age,years of work,and professional title,indicating a need for strength-ened psychological health interventions targeted at nurses.关键词
