Development and application of minimal clinically important difference in lymphoma patient-reported outcome measures:a scoping review

Abstract
Objective To conduct a scoping review of the Minimal Clinically Important Difference(MCID)for Patient-Reported Out-come Measures(PROMs)in lymphoma patients,and to provide guidance for the development of localized lymphoma-specific PROMs and the establishment and application of relevant MCID.Methods Following the methodological framework of scoping review,a com-puterized search was conducted across 7 databases for relevant studies,with a retrieval period spanning from database inception to 31 October 2025.Results A total of 11 studies were included,covering 8 lymphoma-related PROMs for which MCID have been pub-lished;these can be categorised into 4 types:disease-general,cancer-general,lymphoma-specific and symptom-specific;Regarding the establishment of MCID,the methods employed included the anchoring method,the distribution method and the literature analysis method,with indicators involving subjective anchors(European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire Core 30,Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-General,Performance Status,etc.),objective anchors(International Prognostic Index,protein levels,imaging,etc.)and statistical measures derived from the distribution method(1/3 or 1/2 standard devia-tion,0.2 or 0.5 effect size,1 or 1.96 standard error,etc.);regarding the application of MCID,research has focused on the evaluation of the efficacy of drug treatments for lymphoma and has not yet addressed non-pharmacological interventions in this population.Conclusion Currently,the MCID for lymphoma-related PROMs are derived from multiple sources,leading to variations in their ap-plication in practice;furthermore,most MCID were established without the involvement of lymphoma patients.There is an urgent need to develop lymphoma-specific PROMs based on the latest conceptual frameworks and to establish their MCID using sufficiently large sample sizes.At the same time,MCID should be actively adopted as evaluation metrics and extended to studies of both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions,in order to enhance the interpretability and clinical significance of the results.关键词
