Efficacy of ziprasidone combined with modified electroconvulsive therapy in the treatment of schizophrenia and its effects on serum thyroid hormone and glycosylated hemoglobin levels

Abstract
Aim To investigate the efficacy of ziprasidone combined with modified electroconvulsive therapy(MECT)on schizophrenia and its effects on serum thyroid hormone and glycosylated hemoglobin levels.Methods A total of 80 patients with schizophrenia were randomly divided into a control group(ziprasidone alone)and an observation group(MECT+ziprasidone).Clinical efficacy,symptoms,cognitive function,electroencephalogram parameters,and serum thyroid hormone and glycosylated hemo-globin levels were compared between the two groups.Results The clinical total response rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group(P<0.05),and no severe adverse reactions occurred in either group.Compared with before treatment,as treatment time prolonged,the SCL-90 score,θ wave frequency,and the levels of free triiodothyronine,total triiodothyronine,free thyroxine,total thyroxine,and glycosylated hemoglobin decreased in both groups,while the MoCA score,β wave frequency,SMR wave frequency,total cholesterol,and triglycerides increased in both groups.At the same time points,the improvements in the above indicators in the observation group were superior to those in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion MECT combined with zi-prasidone has significant clinical efficacy in the treatment of schizophrenia,representing a safe and effective treatment option.关键词
