Effects of support structure on performance of ducted Archimedes spiral hydrokinetic turbine

Abstract
To investigate the influence of the support structure on the performance of a ducted Archi-medes spiral hydrokinetic turbine(DASHT),the computational fluid dynamics method was employed to systematically analyze the effects of key support structure parameters,including the number,spacing,and width of the supports,on the hydrodynamic performance of the turbine.The results indicate that increasing the number of support structures significantly reduces the power coefficient and thrust coeffi-cient of the DASHT.When the number of front supports increases from 1 to 4,the maximum reduction in the power coefficient reaches 25.0%,while the corresponding reduction for rear supports is 22.2%.Additionally,the operational range of the tip speed ratio is narrowed.The effect of support spacing ex-hibits opposite trends for front and rear supports,though the overall impact remains relatively small.Specifically,when the front support spacing increases from 0.36D to 0.72D,the power coefficient in-creases by approximately 5.33%,whereas for the rear support,it decreases by about 6.04%.Changes in support width have almost no effect on either the power coefficient or the thrust coefficient.Based on these findings,it is recommended that a wider single rear support structure with a smaller support spacing be prioritized in the design process of DASHT to minimize the negative impact of the support structure on turbine performance.关键词
