Research progress on main biological functions of plant essential oils and their regulation of rumen in ruminants
摘要
Abstract
Plant essential oils,as volatile secondary metabolites extracted from natural plants,are rich in structurally diverse bioactive components and are characterized by safety,high efficiency,and environmental friendliness.They have the potential to improve animal growth performance,regulate rumen fermentation,reduce methane(CH4)emissions,enhance nitrogen utilization efficiency,and promote intestinal health.This article reviews the physicochemical properties and main biological functions of plant essential oils,with a focus on summarizing their mechanisms and effects on rumen fermentation function,physiological functions,CH4 emissions,and rumen microbiota in ruminants.It provides an outlook on future in-depth research directions,including the optimization of precise dosages,synergistic effects of compound essential oils,and regulatory mechanisms at the molecular level,aiming to provide a reference for the rational application of plant essential oils in ruminant production.关键词
