Abstract

[Objectives]This study aims to explore how different forest types regulate soil particle size distribution and erodibility in the Zhongtiao Mountains,identify regional soil erosion risks and key influencing factors,and thereby provide a scientific basis for ecological protection and restoration in the Yellow River Basin.[Methods]Four main forest stand types in the Zhongtiao Mountains,Pinus armandii-P.tabuliformis coniferous mixed forest,Quercus wutaishanica conifer-broadleaf mixed forest,P.tabuliformis pure forest,and P.tabuliformis conifer-broadleaf mixed forest,were taken as research objects.The erodibility K value was calculated using the EPIC model,and its relationship with soil physical and chemical properties was analyzed.[Results]Silt was the dominant fraction in the soil particle size distribution.The clay percentage in P.tabuliformis pure forest and Q.wutaishanica conifer-broadleaf mixed forest was significantly higher than that in P.armandii-P.tabuliformis coniferous mixed forest.There was no significant difference in K values among different forest types,but soil depth had a significant impact.In the 0-20 cm soil layer,Q.wutaishanica conifer-broadleaf mixed forest exhibited the lowest K value with a mean value of 0.041 1,whereas that of P.armandii-P.tabuliformis coniferous mixed forest was the highest with a mean value of 0.044 7.The K values in the 20-40 cm soil layer were significantly higher than those in the 0-20 cm layer,with P.tabuliformis conifer-broadleaf mixed forest showing the largest increase of 23.10%.Local soils were dominated by medium-high erodibility(47%)and high erodibility(41%),and the proportion of deep soil samples with high erodibility reached 69%.The K value was positively correlated with silt percentage and soil bulk density,and negatively correlated with sand percentage,organic matter,etc.[Conclusions]Forest stand type in the Zhongtiao Mountains has a significant effect on soil particle size distribution.The soil erodibility increases with depth,and Q.wutaishanica conifer-broadleaf mixed forest has the best soil resistance to erosion.Silt percentage,organic matter,and sand percentage are the key regulating factors.This research can provide scientific support for regional forest stand optimization and soil and water conservation.
