Elucidation of half-whole and half-powder compatibility theory of Halloysitum Rubrum in Taohua Decoction(桃花汤)from the Treatise on Febrile Diseases(伤寒论)

Abstract
Documented by ZHANG Zhongjing as a classical formula for treating yin-cold diarrhea with purulent-bloody stool in Shaoyin Syndrome,Taohua Decoction(桃花汤)embodies unique formulation wisdom through Halloysitum Rubrum's divided preparation(half whole,half powdered).This study traces the textual origins in Sections 306-307 of the Treatise on Febrile Diseases(伤寒论)to analyze the compatibility mechanism of"dividing one jin(≈500 g)for dual application"of Halloysitum Rubrum.It examines the methodological principles through historical debates on pathomechanism interpretation,while systematically organizing four theoretical frameworks from ancient and modern physicians:Ascend-Descend Regulation and Pathogen Interception,Qi-Blood Layer Differentiation,Bodily Form and Functional Qi Management,and Concurrent Management of Root and Manifestation.Furthermore,it investigates contemporary clini-cal applications and translational values of this preparation approach,aiming to promote the inheritance and innovation of ZHANG Zhongjing's formulation wisdom while establishing a methodological paradigm for contemporary transformation of classical formulas.关键词
