Survey on health literacy status and analysis of influencing factors among 3,552 hospitalized patients

Abstract
Objective To investigate the health literacy status among 3,552 hospitalized patients in the Department of Tho-racic Surgery and analyze its influencing factors.Methods A total of 3,552 patients hospitalized in the Department of Tho-racic Surgery of our hospital from January 2023 to October 2025 were selected as survey participants.A general information questionnaire and the Chinese version of the All Aspects of Health Literacy Scale(C-AAHLS)were used for the survey,and the obtained data were statistically analyzed.Results The total C-AAHLS score of the participants was(24.05±4.19)points,with dimension scores of(8.50±1.90)points for interactive health literacy,(8.15±2.03)points for functional health literacy,and(7.40±2.54)points for critical health literacy.Univariate analysis showed statistically significant differences in C-AAHLS scores among participants of different genders,ages,occupational statuses,educational levels,ma-rital statuses,long-term residence places,smoking histories,payment methods for hospitalization expenses,levels of under-standing of the hospital's WeChat platform,and frequencies of receiving health education from medical staff(P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis showed that,after controlling for other variables,age<50 years,educational level of col-lege or above,long-term residence in urban areas,higher level of understanding of the hospital's WeChat platform,and higher frequency of receiving health education from medical staff were independent promoting factors for higher C-AAHLS scores(P<0.05),explaining 59.85%of the total variance.Conclusion The overall health literacy level of hospitalized pa-tients in the Department of Thoracic Surgery is moderate and influenced by multiple factors.Factors such as advanced age,low educational level,rural residence,insufficient understanding of the hospital's WeChat platform,and limited opportuni-ties to receive health education are potential intervention targets that should be prioritized and validated when constructing health literacy improvement programs for thoracic surgery patients in the future.关键词
