Fan Yongping's experience in the treatment of multiple sclerosis based on the theory of"kidney governing bone marrow generation to nourish the brain"

Abstract
Professor Fan Yongping holds that the pathogenesis of multiple sclerosis is deficiency of kidney essence,in which kidney deficiency and marrow depletion constitute its basis,while intermingled phlegm and stasis is its key.The innate deficiency of kidney essence features the main internal cause of this disease,while exogenous six pathogens,internal impairment of the seven emotions,improper diet,overwork,trauma,and emptiness of all meridians after childbirth are its inducing factors.Professor Fan Yongping puts forward that the treatment principles for this disease involve tonifying the kidney and replenishing qi,activating blood circulation and removing blood stasis.Based on the TCM theory of"tonifying the kidney to generate bone marrow to nourish the brain",he formulates the experimental prescription Bushen Yisui Decoction,with rehmannia root as the main ingredient,with processed rehmannia root,unprepared rehmannia root,prepared fleeceflower root,common yam rhizome,desertliving cistanche,dodder seed and so on to nourish the liver and kidney.In addition,he also emphasizes the combination of tonifying deficiency and purging excess.On the basis of tonifying the kidney,he adds the drugs for promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis and activating collaterals,so as to achieve a balanced effect.He applies these methods in the clinical treatment of multiple sclerosis,achieving a good curative effect.关键词
