Study on the Water Retention Characteristics of Saline Soil Improved by MICP Combined with Activated Carbon

Abstract
To address the insufficient water retention capacity of saline soil in the coastal areas of North China,microbial-induced calcite precipitation(MICP)combined with activated carbon was employed for soil improvement.Through macroscopic water content tests and microscopic mechanism analysis,this study investigated the effects of varying salt content and activated carbon modification on water retention characteristics.Results show that:in the soil-water characteristic curve(SWCC),residual water content,air entry value,total suction,and matric suction all increase with rising salt content.After MICP treatment,the precipitated calcium carbonate fills pores and cemented soil particles,optimizing the pore structure and significantly enhancing water retention capacity.The MICP technique effectively improves the water retention of saline soil,providing a novel approach for enhancing the performance of vegetative slope protection.关键词
