Effects of adding organic materials on the soil improvement of northern Jiangsu alkali-saline and the growth of Carya illinoinensis

Abstract
[Objective]This research aims to explore the effects of different soil improvement measures on soil quality and enzyme activity of Carya illinoinensis forest,to provide the theory support for soil improvement and application in northern Jiangsu coastal areas.[Method]The experiment took the salt-alkali soil of northern Jiangsu as the research object,selected C.illinoinensis as the test material to conduct field experiments,and set up five treatments:biochar,straw,arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi(AMF),biochar+AMF,straw+AMF,and control.In November 2020,March 2021,July 2021,and October 2021,field investigations and sample collections were conducted,respectively,to compare and analyze the differences in soil quality and the growth of C.illinoinensis seedlings under various treatments.[Result]The combined application of biochar and AMF resulted in the highest seedling height and ground diameter of C.illinoinensis across all seasons.Individual biochar treatment,as well as combined treatments of straw,biochar and biochar+AMF,significantly reduced the soil pH in the[40,60)cm soil layer during November,2020,showing a decrease of 2.91%~3.75%compared to CK(P<0.05).Both the sole biochar treatment and its combination with AMF significantly reduced soil electrical conductivity in the[20,40)cm soil layer during November,2020 and October,2021,as well as in the[40,60)cm soil layer during the November,2020 and March,2021,with reductions exceeding 20%compared to CK(P<0.05).The sole biochar treatment and its combination with AMF effectively increased soil capillary porosity and non-capillary porosity,respectively.Additionally,the combined application of biochar and AMF significantly enhanced the availability of soil nutrients in the[40,60)cm soil layer during October,2021.[Conclusion]The biochar+AMF mixture emerged as the most effective soil amendment,suggesting that using it in conjunction with seasonal management could optimize soil health and promote silviculture in coastal regions.关键词
