Effects of Beauveria bassiana-Soybean Symbiosis on Soybean Growth and Soybean Aphid Development and Reproduction

Abstract
To clarify the effects of the Beauveria bassiana-soybean(Glycine max)symbiont formed by endophytic colonization of strain Bb-316 on soybean and the soybean aphid(Aphis glycines),this study sprayed conidial suspensions of B.bassiana Bb-316 on soybean leaves,determined the endophytic colonization of the fungus in soybean plants and its effects on soybean growth,constructed laboratory life tables of the soybean aphid population,and evaluated the impacts of endophytic colonization by B.bassiana on the development,reproduction,and population parameters of the soybean aphid.The results showed that B.bassiana strain Bb-316 successfully colonized roots,stems,and leaves of soybean after foliar application.The belowground biomass of soybean plants in the symbiont treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group.Significant differences were observed in adult longevity,survival rate,and fecundity of soybean aphids between the symbiont treatment and the control group.Although no significant difference was found in the nymphal duration between the two groups,adult longevity of soybean aphids in the symbiont group(3.03 d)was significantly shorter than that in the control group(10.33 d);the total number of offspring produced per adult aphid in the symbiont group(5.07 individuals)was markedly lower than that in the control group(21.47 individuals).The net reproductive rate(R0),mean generation time(T),finite rate of increase(λ),and intrinsic rate of increase(rm)of soybean aphids in all concentration treatments of the symbiont were lower than those in the control group.In conclusion,colonization of soybean by B.bassiana strain Bb-316 can promote the increase of soybean root biomass and inhibit the development and reproduction of the soybean aphid population,providing a material basis for the biological control of soybean aphids.关键词
