The Rise and Preliminary Establishment of Student Physical Examination System in Modern China(1903-1929)

Abstract
During the late 19th and early 20th centuries,modern western concepts and technologies of physical examination were introduced into China.In 1929,the Nanjing National Government issued the Rules for Health Examination of School Students,which legally established the status of student physical examination in the form of a national system for the first time.Taking the period from 1903 to 1929 as the research scope,this paper divides the modern student physical examination system into three stages:the germination and initial practice of relevant ideas,localized development,and the formal establishment of a national system.The study shows that the formation of this system resulted from the combined effects of medical standardization,national governance and the transformation of social hygiene.Its development was also accompanied by unbalanced regional implementation and practical dilemmas,which profoundly reflected the process of modern state shaping and governing the citizens'bodies.关键词
