Performance Analysis of Energy Storage Systems Based on Series Coupling of Novel Carnot Batteries with Solar Thermal Power Plants

Abstract
To address the challenges of integrating curtailed photovoltaic power and optimizing the energy efficiency and economic viability of solar thermal systems,a novel photovoltaic-solar thermal series architecture driven by a Carnot battery is proposed.By integrating the thermal storage side in a series configuration,this approach enables the synergistic utilization of low-grade ambient heat and curtailed electricity,with the Carnot battery responsible for low-temperature heating and the solar thermal system handling high-temperature heating.By integrating a 100 MW solar thermal unit with a 220 MW Carnot battery unit in a series-coupled configuration,the system's power generation capacity is increased to 350 MW through efficient energy utilization—without changing the input energy—while improving the system's energy efficiency by 3.62%,thermal efficiency by 3.57%,and net thermal losses by 237.5 MWh;the project's internal rate of return is 16.90%,the payback period is 5.92 years,and total profits increase by 10.22%.This study provides an innovative technical pathway and theoretical support for the efficient utilization of renewable energy.关键词
