National Digital Economy Innovation Zones and the Low-carbon Transition of Energy Structure

Abstract
Using provincial panel data in China from 2010 to 2024,this study treats the establishment of National Digital E-conomy Innovation Zones as a quasi-natural experiment and employs a double machine learning approach to empirically examine their impact on the low-carbon transition of the energy structure and the underlying mechanisms.The results show that the establish-ment of these zones significantly promotes the low-carbon transition of the energy structure,and this finding remains robust across a series of checks.Mechanism analysis indicates that the effect operates through industrial collaborative agglomeration and the deve-lopment of green finance.Heterogeneity analysis suggests that the policy effect is more pronounced in regions with higher levels of industrialization,innovation capacity,and government efficiency.This study provides important empirical evidence and policy in-sights for understanding the intrinsic linkages between digital economy development and sustainable development.关键词
