Abstract

[Objective]The mitochondrial genome characteristics of sterile and fertile seed fennel were investigated to provide a reference for breeding of seed fennel.[Method]The mitochondrial genome of sterile(FvGZBY001)and fertile(FvGZKY001)seed fennel was sequenced and analyzed.[Result]The mitochondrial gene sequences of FvGZKY001(GenBank:PQ399810)and FvGZBY001(GenBank:PQ399811)were consistent,with a length of 249 367 bp,and the GC content accounted for 45.34%.The sequence alignment between sterile and fertile bulb fennel showed that the sterile bulb fennel was induced by mutation of mitochondrial atp6 gene,and its sequence length was 792 bp.The sequence length of mitochondrial atp6 gene in fertile bulb fennel,FvGZKY001 and FvGZBY001 all was 1 167 bp.[Conclusion]The bred seed fennel FvGZBY001 can be used in hybrid breeding of seed fennel because the sources of the bred seed fennel FvGZBY001 and the sterile bulb fennel are different.
