Abstract

[Objective]This study aims to evaluate the impact of hydropower development on water ecological security in the middle reaches of the Jinsha River Basin,and to reveal the spatial differentiation characteristics of water ecological security under varying development intensities,thereby providing scientific guidance for ecological protection and hydropower develop-ment in the river basin.[Methods]Based on field surveys of water ecology in the mainstream and tributaries of the middle reaches of the Jinsha River Basin in 2022,along with remote sensing monitoring and historical data,a water ecological securi-ty evaluation system was constructed with habitat health,organism health,and ecological service function health as its core.The analytic hierarchy process-entropy weight method was used to determine the indicator weights,and the comprehensive evaluation method was applied to evaluate the water ecological security status of the mainstream reservoir sections and tributary reaches in the study area,respectively.[Results](1)The overall water ecological security in the middle reaches of the Jin-sha River Basin was in a general state,with significant differences among criterion layers.The habitat health score was rela-tively high(sub-healthy),while significant spatial differences were observed in ecological health and ecological service func-tion health.(2)Spatially,the water ecological security status in upstream reservoir areas and tributaries was relatively poor,with a greater number of sections in a general state in the upstream mainstream reservoir sections and tributary reaches than in downstream areas.(3)The degree of hydropower development and natural geomorphological characteristics were the main fac-tors affecting the water ecological security status.In upstream areas,high-intensity hydropower development combined with high-altitude canyon geomorphology significantly increased water ecological security risks,whereas the broad-valley geomor-phology and moderate nutrient input in downstream areas supported relatively higher ecological richness.[Conclusions]The threat to water ecological security becomes more pronounced with increasing hydropower development intensity,and natural geomorphological characteristics play an important regulatory role in spatial differentiation.It is recommended to strictly con-trol development intensity and strengthen ecological restoration in upstream areas,and to optimize nutrient management and habitat protection in downstream areas.
