Preliminary study on screening early rice varieties for low cadmium accumulation in grains and high yield

Abstract
[Objective]This study aims to screen early rice varieties with low cadmium(Cd)content in grains and high yield in Jiangxi Province,so as to provide a material basis for the breeding of new rice varieties with low Cd in grains.[Method]Fifty-nine early season rice varieties mainly promoted in Jiangxi Province were selected as test materials.Field plot experiments were conducted to determine rice yield,Cd content in brown rice and Cd enrichment coefficient,and to compare the differences in Cd enrichment among different rice varieties in slightly and moderately Cd-contaminated fields,respectively.[Result]In slightly Cd-contaminated fields,the yield range of different tested varieties was 5.1-8.9 t/hm²,with significant differences in yield;in moderately Cd-contaminated fields,the yield range was 4.45-8.87 t/hm²,and the yield differences were more significant.In slightly Cd-contaminated fields,the Cd content in brown rice of each variety ranged from 0.017 to 0.263 mg/kg,among which 50 varieties had Cd content lower than the national limit standard(0.200 mg/kg);in moderately Cd-contaminated fields,the Cd content in brown rice of each variety ranged from 0.028 to 0.484 mg/kg,among which 16 varieties met the national standard.In slightly Cd-contaminated fields,the Cd enrichment coefficient of brown rice for each variety ranged from 0.06 to 0.85;under moderate Cd contamination,the Cd enrichment coefficient of brown rice for each variety ranged from 0.06 to 1.03.[Conclusion]Considering both rice yield and Cd accumulation in brown rice comprehensively,10 varieties,including Zhong'an 7,Zhong'an 2,Qiliangyou 2216,Zhongjiazao 17,Anfengyou 5020,Bingliangyou 518,Lingliangyou 739,Hongyouzao 1,Jinzhenyouzaosi and You I 527,were screened out as suitable low-Cd and high-yield grain varieties for planting in slightly Cd-contaminated fields.Zhong'an 2,Hongyazao 2,Qiliangyou 2216,Zhong'an 7,Hongyouzao 1,Zhong'anzao 35 and Zhongjiazao 17 can be used as suitable low-Cd and high-yield grain rice varieties for moderately Cd-contaminated fields in Jiangxi rice-growing areas.关键词
