Abstract

Current design codes for calculating the axial compressive capacity of steel reinforced concrete(SRC)columns largely neglect the confinement effects provided by the steel section and reinforcement,resulting in conservative results.In this study,a finite element model for SRC short columns was established based on the constitutive model of confined concrete to analyze the internal force distribution of the constituent materials.By combining existing experimental data from the literature with finite element parametric analysis,a calculation method for the axial compressive capacity of slender SRC columns was developed,explicitly accounting for the confinement effects.The results demonstrates that when SRC short columns reach their peak axial load,the average concrete stress under the confinement of the steel section and reinforcement can reach or even exceed its uniaxial compressive strength.The introduction of a confinement factor significantly enhances the calculation accuracy of the axial compressive capacity for SRC short columns and the stability factor.The results obtained from the proposed method show good agreement with the experimental data and finite element analysis results,validating its accuracy.
