Equivalence of Bio-DBM bone plugs and Bio-Oss bone granule in alveolar ridge preservation

Abstract
Objective:To compare the efficacy of Bio-DBM bone plugs versus Bio-Oss bone granule for alveolar ridge preservation(ARP)against non-preservation in maintaining 3D ridge morphology and bone regeneration post-extraction.Methods:In this prospective trial,43 patients(45 sites)requiring posterior tooth extraction and implant restoration(2023~2024)were randomized into:experimental group(Bio-DBM bone plugs),control group(Bio-Oss bone granules),and blank group(extraction alone).Pain,satisfaction,vertical/horizontal bone dimensional changes,and bone resorption were assessed.Results:At 6 months postoperatively,horizontal bone mass(measured at 2 mm,4 mm,6 mm from the alveolar ridge crest)showed no significant difference between the experimental and control groups(P>0.05),but both were significantly superior to the blank group(P<0.05).Vertical bone mass at 6 months also showed no significant difference between the experimental and control groups(P>0.05),while both were significantly higher than the blank group(P<0.05).Bone resorption was simi-lar between the experimental and control groups(P>0.05),but both were significantly lower than that in the blank group(P<0.05).Conclusion:Both Bio-DBM plugs and Bio-Oss effectively preserve alveolar ridge dimensions and enhance bone regen-eration,outperforming extraction alone.Bio-DBM plugs offer a clinically equivalent alternative to Bio-Oss for implant site preparation.关键词
