Abstract

[Objective]The spatiotemporal characteristics,future trends,and driving mechanisms of the eco-environment quality in the catchment area of Wuhai section of Yellow River from 2001 to 2024 were investigated in order to provide a scientific reference for formulating differentiated and refined ecological protection and restoration strategies for this region.[Methods]The ecological environment quality of the study area was characterized by China's high-resolution eco-environmental quality(CHEQ)index dataset,which integrated multi-source information,including greenness,humidity,dryness,heat,and land cover,on the basis of the remote sensing ecological index(RSEI)framework to comprehensively characterize the ecological status of resource-based watersheds from multiple dimensions.Trend analysis,coefficient of variation,Hurst index,and optimal parameters-based GeoDetector(OPGD)were used in combination with remote sensing data to analyze and predict the temporal evolution,spatial differentiation,and stability of CHEQ index.[Results]The results indicated that CHEQ in the catchment area exhibited an overall periodic fluctuating decline,with an interannual change rate of-0.000 4/a(p<0.05),and showed a periodic pattern of'rising first and then falling every five years'.Spatially,the ecological quality presented a pattern characterized by lower values in the northwest and higher values in the southeast.Stability was characterized by the coexistence of high and low fluctuations,with a high proportion of moderate fluctuations.Based on future trend prediction,66.9%of the area was likely to develop in a benign direction,while 15.0%of the area was expected to continue to deteriorate.Driving mechanism detection revealed that population density,climate and terrain were the main driving forces.Complex synergistic enhancement effects were found among factors,demonstrating a strong negative synergy between terrain and human activities,while economic and infrastructure indicators exhibited a high degree of interactive coupling.[Conclusion]Changes in the ecological environment quality of the catchment area of Wuhai section of Yellow River are driven by a complex coupling of natural constraints and human activities.Future ecological protection and restoration require differentiated strategies tailored to the cyclical fluctuations and synergistic driving mechanisms to promote the healthy development of the regional ecological environment.
