Rural Public Services and Farmers'Occupational Choices:

Abstract
Based on the data from the Chinese General Social Survey(CGSS),this study constructs a comprehensive evaluation index system for rural public services,and employs a multivariate Logit model to empirically analyze the impact of rural public service levels on farmers'occupational choices.The results show that the level of infrastructure construction and entrepreneurial support lower the threshold for non-agricultural entrepreneurship,while basic education and skills training enhance farmers'employment competitiveness,jointly promoting the transfer of farmers from agricultural to non-agricultural occupations.Specifically,the improvement of rural public service levels exerts the strongest promoting effect on farmers'self-employment,followed by employment in enterprises.In addition,the impact of rural public services shows regional and group heterogeneity:the improvement of rural public services in the western region has the most significant effect on farmers'non-agricultural occupational transformation;the eastern region relies on high-quality training and social security to promote farmers'employment in enterprises;and the central region leverages productive facilities to stimulate local farmers'entrepreneurial vitality.Low-income and elderly groups rely more on basic social security to engage in self-employment,while middle and high-income groups and young and middle-aged farmers achieve diversified non-agricultural transformation through education,information services,and financial services.Based on these findings,it is suggested to establish a differentiated rural public service supply system by improving the level of rural public services,narrowing regional disparities,and implementing targeted policies for different groups.关键词
