The Historical Truth and Impact of the"May 19"Incident in Chinese Football
摘要
Abstract
The"May 19"incident in Chinese football during the 1980s occurred against the specific backdrop of the"sports fever"and"football fever"in the early stages of China's reform and opening-up.It was characterized by a nascent and irrational form of patriotism.Although the"May 19"incident was a typical case of a negligent defeat on the field and generated numerous negative consequences,its reverberations exerted certain positive and indirect impacts on the subsequent development of Chinese football.These impacts are mainly reflected in the following aspects:(1)It triggered reflections on the drawbacks of the traditional football system and induced gradual reforms in the football management system;(2)It rationally cooled down the overheated football fever and guided public opinion toward a rational reflection on football development;(3)It prompted introspection regarding irrational violent behaviors both on and off the pitch,thereby strengthening the governance of ethical development in football;(4)It promoted the preparatory management for the national football team,serving as a lasting historical warning.关键词
