From"Popularization"to the"New Enlightenment":On Zhao Shuli's Engagement with the Discussion on"National Form"
摘要
Abstract
The debate on"national form"was a cultural movement initiated by the Chinese Communist Party during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression to achieve the"Sinicization of Marxism",aiming at constructing the ideology of a modern nation-state.In his articles Introduction to Popularization and Popularization and"Holding Back"published in 1941,Zhao Shuli criticized the thesis centered on the"central source"of national form,arguing that popularization was key to achieving the goals of the"new enlightenment".He proposed that this could be realized through the dialectical unity of"popularization"and"elevation".Zhao Shuli's perspective on popularization offers a"local"viewpoint that contributes to a deeper understanding of the historical relationships among"national form",the"new enlightenment"move-ment,and his own literary philosophy.关键词
