Evaluation of the caries prevention effect of Galla chinensis extract com-bined with fluorine coating on fixed orthodontic treatment

Abstract
Objective To observe the clinical caries prevention effect of Galla chinensis extract combined with fluorine coating on patients with fixed orthodontic treatment.Methods A total of 81 patients with fixed orthodontic treatment admit-ted in the First Hospital of Nanchang from May 2023 to July 2024 were selected as the research objects.According to the random number table method,they were divided into control group(27 cases),fluoride coated group(27 cases),and combined group(27 cases).The control group received routine orthodontic treatment without additional caries prevention measures.In the fluoride coated group,on the basis of conventional treatment,fluoride was applied to the tooth surface around the brackets once every 6 months.The combined group was garbled with Galla chinensis extract once a month on the basis of the fluoride coated group.The plaque index,the number of demineralized teeth and the degree of demineralization were compared among the three groups,and the incidence of adverse reactions during the treatment was recorded.Results After 6 and 12 months of treatment,the plaque index,the number of demineralized teeth,and the degree of demineralization in the fluoride coated group and the combined group were lower than those in the control group at the same time point,and the above indexes in the combined group were lower than those in the fluoride coated group,and the differences were statistically significant(P＜0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse re-actions among the three groups(P＞0.05).Conclusion Galla chinensis extract combined with fluorine coating can signifi-cantly improve the health of teeth and prevent enamel demineralization in patients with fixed orthodontic treatment.The anti-caries effect of Galla chinensis extract combined with fluorine coating is better than that of single fluorine coating,and the safety is good.关键词
