From Functional Venue to Cultural Scene:Placemaking Practices of Sports Architecture as Platforms for Public Life

Abstract
As an essential component of urban public space,sports architecture is evolving from being a passive provider of facilities to a proactive facilitator of public life.This paper takes Huzhou Xiaomeigang Sports Park as its research subject and,through case analysis and field observation,systematically explores how the park leveraged the synergy between spatial design and operational activities to transform an underutilized urban leftover space into a dynamic cultural destination.The study finds that the park's success stems from its systematic placemaking strategy:its"one ring,two belts,three zones,and six scenic spots"spatial arrangement establishes a solid physical basis for diverse public interactions,while its integrated operational model of"sports+cultural tourism+commerce"continually enriches the space with cultural content and social vitality.This shift from traditional space construction to holistic placemaking effectively addresses common challenges such as insufficient vitality and unsustainable operation in public spaces,providing a clear and practical model for how contemporary sports architecture can deeply engage with and actively shape urban public culture.关键词
