Deep prospecting method and application for concealed rare earth deposits based on time-frequency electromagnetic and radiometric methods:A case study of Longjiagou area in periphery of Maoniuping deposit

Abstract
The Panxi Mianning-Dechang rare earth(REE)metallogenic belt represents one of the most significant rare earth resource bases in China and globally,where the exploration for concealed carbonatite-alkaline rock-type REE deposits holds substantial strategic importance.However,traditional geophysical and geochemical methods encounter significant technical limitations in detecting deep-seated concealed ore bodies due to interference from complex topography and thick overburden.To address this critical bottleneck,this study focuses on the Longjiagou area in the periphery of the Maoniuping REE deposit.Based on systematic determing of geological features,physical properties,and electrical anomaly patterns,we applied time-frequency electromagnetic(TFEM)method for the first time to detect deep concealed RE ore bodies in this region,integrated with radio-metric gamma-ray total count measurements to develop a comprehensive geophysical prospecting methodology.The results demonstrate that REE ore bodies exhibit distinctive electrical signatures characterized by high resis-tivity and moderate-to-high polarizability,significantly different from the surrounding rocks.Three deep electri-cal anomaly zones(M1-1 to M1-3)were delineated through TFEM inversion,and two verification boreholes(ZK001 and ZK002)were positioned at the anomaly centers.Drilling results confirm that both M1-1 and M1-2 anomalies correspond to concealed RE mineralized zones:ZK001 intersected an ore body with an apparent thickness of 125.76 m and an average total rare earth oxide(TREO)content of 4.87%,with core grades exceed-ing 60%;ZK002 revealed an apparent thickness of 313 m with an average grade of 2.77%.The high consisten-cy between geophysical predictions and drilling data validates the effectiveness of the integrated TFEM-radio-metric approach for deep detection of concealed RE deposits.These findings substantially enrich the explora-tion theory for concealed REE ore bodies and have important guiding significance and application value for deep prospecting of analogous deposits.关键词
