The Impact of Family Forest Farms Participation on Farmers'Forestry Production Inputs
摘要
Abstract
⑴ Background——Improving farmers'forestry production inputs is crucial for deepening the reform of col-lective forest tenure systems and promoting sustainable forestry development.Family forest farms provide an im-portant path for promoting farmers'forestry production inputs and achieving intensive management. However, most existing studies focus on the conceptual definition, driving factors and macro performance evaluation of fam-ily forest farms, while lacking systematic theoretical explanation and empirical tests on the internal mechanism of how family forest farms participation affects farmers'micro investment decisions, especially the mediating and moderating effects of non-economic factors such as social networks and time preference. ⑵ Methods——This paper first constructed an analytical framework including"scale operation-social net-work-time preference"based on the theoretical analysis and put forward the research hypotheses. Then, based on the micro survey data of 1 054 farmers in Sanming City,Fujian Province collected by the research group from May to July 2023,it comprehensively adopted the propensity score matching method, mediation effect model and moderation effect model to empirically examine the impact of family forest farms participation on the farmers'for-estry production inputs and its internal mechanism. ⑶ Results——First, family forest farms participation can significantly increase the farmers'capital input, labor input and total input in forestry production, with a particularly prominent promoting effect on capital input. This indicates that family forest farms serve as an effective approach to improve the level of intensive forestry management.Second, social networks exert a complete mediating effect in the relationship between"family forest farms participation-forestry production inputs".It means that family forest farms participation mainly reduces the uncertainty in forestry operation by expanding and strengthening the farmers'social connections and giving play to the functions of information transmission, risk mitigation and social learning.Third, the farmers'time preference has a significant moderating effect. The stronger the farmers'long-term investment tendency, the more obvious the promoting effect of family forest farms participation on their forestry production inputs. ⑷ Conclusions and Discussions——First, implement differentiated development strategies for family for-est farms. For farmers who have participated in or intend to establish family forest farms,it is essential to guaran-tee the stability of forestland management rights, smooth forestland circulation channels, and support their mod-erate scale operation by improving infrastructure, providing technical guidance and delivering market information.Second, strengthen the functions of social networks as information bridges and trust capital. It is necessary to de-velop forestry professional cooperatives and industry associations to build formal platforms for information ex-change and technology diffusion, and encourage high-performing family forest farms to play an exemplary and leading role.Third, establish a long-term incentive and support mechanism for investment and guide farmers to form long-term investment concepts.Adopt innovative forestry financial instruments to stabilize farmers'long-term income expectations.Meanwhile, continue to deepen the reform of property rights systems to consolidate the insti-tutional foundation for long-term investment. In addition, integrate behavioral intervention concepts into forestry promotion and public services to help farmers overcome short-sighted cognitive biases and fully recognize the comprehensive benefits of long-term forestry investment.关键词
