The Influence of Block Morphology on Tourist Behavior in Traditional Villages:An Empirical Analysis Based on VGI Data
摘要
Abstract
The spatial morphology of traditional villages is a carrier of valuable traditional culture that also significantly guides and constrains the visiting processes of tourists. Therefore, understanding the effects of the spatial morphology of traditional villages on the behavior of people who live in and visit these spaces is a prerequisite for their revitalization and adaptive use.Based on the"morphology-behavior"framework,a regression analysis model was built from the"block-road network"morphology. Moreover,an empirical study in Xixinan Village,Huangshan City, was conducted to provide references for the subsequent conservation of traditional village landscape and enhancement of village vitality. In this study, block morphology was used as the independent variable, and tourist behavior as the dependent variable.Meanwhile, control variables related to business functions, culture, and landscape were incorporated to ensure the independent influence of block morphology on tourism behaviors could be identified. The block morphological indicators were measured from the geometric and topological dimensions.Consequently,a morphological measurement system was established, covering four dimensions of block geometry, road network geometry, block topology, and road network topology. The system comprises 16 indicators.Tourist behavior data were derived from volunteered geographic information,in the form of tourist trajectory data provided by the Liangbulu app.The average heat value within each block was extracted through kernel density analysis, which was then used as the intensity of tourist behavior at the block scale.Meanwhile,point-of-interest density, historical building density, and green coverage ratio were selected as control variables to control for the influence of non-morphological factors on tourist behavior. To reduce potential multicollinearity among block morphological indicators, the relationship between block morphology and tourist behavior was explored using ridge regression.A heterogeneity analysis was further conducted to compare the responses of different types of tourist behavior to block morphology. The empirical study based on Xixinan Village indicates that block perimeter, street length, street width, intersection density, and interface density are the main morphological factors influencing tourist behaviors.Among them, block perimeter, street length, and street width generally have negative effects, whereas intersection density and interface density generally have positive effects. An increase in block perimeter and street length tends to reduce the concentration of activities, and an increase in street width tends to suppress tourist activities.By contrast,it can improve pedestrian accessibility and offer more route options by increasing intersection density. It can provide more visual surfaces and stopping points by increasing interface density, which are conducive to forming linear concentrations of tourist activities. In terms of control variables, business functions, cultural factors, and landscape factors all show positive effects, indicating that functional supply, historical and cultural resources, and landscape environment remain important external factors influencing tourist behavior. The heterogeneity analysis further shows that block morphology plays distinct roles in different tourist behavior patterns.Interface density and intersection density have stronger effects on long-route and looped-route behaviors, whereas short-route and pass-through behaviors are more sensitive to changes in movement scale, such as street length and width.More broadly, larger block perimeters, longer street lengths, and wider streets tend to inhibit short-route and pass-through behaviors, while higher intersection density and greater interface density are more conducive to promoting long-route and looped-route behaviors. Long-route and looped-route behaviors can encourage tourists to have a deeper experience of traditional villages.Based on these findings, this study suggests restoring blocked lane connections, reducing dead-end spaces, and improving interface density by repairing courtyard walls along streets and reducing gaps in street interfaces while preserving the original street and lane pattern of traditional villages. These measures can help maintain the continuity and integrity of interfaces along the main tourist routes and improve the long-route visiting experience. In addition,it can enhance the looped-route visiting experience by maintaining the morphological characteristics of small blocks and short boundaries and avoiding block merging and boundary expansion. The overall vitality of tourism can be enhanced by improving connectivity between blocks and the circular touring ability of local spaces while preserving the traditional village character.关键词
