摘要

Abstract

A typical stratiform cloud process in Hulunbeier area of northeast Inner Mongolia on May 31,2021 was observed over two sorties and three periods using airborne cloud particle detection equipment.The obtained airborne detection data were used to systematically investigate the microphysical characteristics of the typical stratiform clouds in this region.Results are as follows:(1)the stratiform clouds over Hulunbeier exhibit horizontal and vertical heterogeneity,with a pronounced high liquid water content band present within the cloud body.(2)Horizontally,the periphery of the high liquid water content region is dominated by the liquid phase,and the center is a mixed phase region.(3)Within the mixed-phase region,the cloud droplet spectrum displays a unimodal distribution,characterized by a small effective radius,a narrow spectrum width,and strong colloidal stability.In contrast,the liquid phase region at the periphery of the high liquid water content band exhibits a bimodal droplet spectrum distribution.When cloud heterogeneity is weak,the ice crystal number concentration in the large-size segment increases significantly with increasing liquid water content.Conversely,when cloud heterogeneity is strong,the ice crystal number concentration across all size segment increases significantly with the increasing liquid water content.(4)Following the development of an inversion layer during cloud evolution,water vapor condenses into water droplets at the base of this layer.During ascent,a portion of the supercooled water freezes and nucleates into ice crystals.(5)When both the liquid water content and cloud droplet number concentration within clouds are relatively high,the cloud droplet spectrum dispersion exhibits a negative correlation with both parameters.Furthermore,as cloud droplets primarily grow by condensation and lack large droplets,effective precipitation formation under natural conditions is challenging.
