Analysis of Airflow Velocity Field in Generator Unit Ventilation System

Abstract
To evaluate the overall flow field characteristics of a generator unit,a calculation model of the external flow field of the entire generator unit was established based on the CFD method using the fluid analysis software STAR-CCM+,and the air volume distribution,component velocity field,and cross-sec-tion velocity field were comprehensively analyzed.The results indicate that the air velocity at the fan outlet is relatively high,and the cooling air is guided to the cylinder head and the crankcase air duct through the air-guiding effect of the fan cover to cool the engine.The maximum airflow velocity at the engine heat sink can reach 10 m/s,and the airflow velocity distribution at the bottom of the crankcase is relatively uniform,with an airflow velocity of 6-8 m/s.The overall flow field velocity distribution of the generator unit is uni-form,and there is no obvious flow dead zone.The airflow velocity on the surface of the engine(cylinder head,crankcase bottom,and crankcase body)is evenly distributed,without hot air backflow.The airflow velocity distribution on the surfaces of the electronic stator and muffler is relatively good,which is condu-cive to the cooling of high-temperature components.The layout of air inlets of the generator unit is dis-cussed.After the five air inlets are changed to two,the total air intake volume of the generator unit de-creases from 75.07 g/s to 62.12 g/s,with a reduction of 12.95 g/s(decreasing by 17.3%).The airflow velo-city on the surfaces of the frequency converter and motor stator increases significantly,while that on the surfaces of the engine and muffler decreases.The layout of air inlets and outlets has a significant impact on the overall flow field.Therefore,the positions of the air inlets and outlets should be reasonably selected based on the design requirements of the cooling system of the generator unit to ensure its cooling.The re-search results can provide simulation data support and method reference for the design and structural im-provement of the cooling system of the generator unit.关键词
