Clinical Characteristics of Olfactory Dysfunction in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea-hypopnea Syndrome

Abstract
Objective:To analyze the clinical characteristics of olfactory dysfunction in patients with obstructive sleep apnea-hy-popnea syndrome(OSAHS).Methods:A total of 120 patients with OSAHS admitted to Beijing Huairou Hospital from December 2022 to July 2025 were selected as the research subjects.The severity of the patients' condition was diagnosed by portable monitor device(PMD),and the olfactory function was evaluated by Sniffin'Sticks test(SST).The relationship of olfactory dysfunction with sleep parameters and comorbidities was analyzed based on the patients' clinical data.Results:The incidence of olfactory dysfunc-tion in OSAHS patients was 68.3％.The proportion of olfactory dysfunction in patients with severe disease was higher than that in those with mild to moderate disease,and there was a difference(P＜0.05).The lowest nocturnal oxygen saturation in the olfactory dysfunction group was lower than that in the normosmic group,whereas the apnea-hypopnea index(AHI)was significantly in-creased,and these differences were statistically significant(P＜0.05).Patients co-infected with or combining chronic rhinitis or allergic rhinitis had a higher incidence of olfactory dysfunction(P＜0.05).Conclusion:There is a close relationship among olfac-tory dysfunction in OSAHS patients,the severity of sleep apnea,nocturnal hypoxemia,and nasal inflammation.Early screening of olfactory function in patients can effectively assist in clinical assessment of the progression of the patient's condition.关键词
