Evaluation of lubricating properties of molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate in laboratory and field conditions

Abstract
To address increasingly stringent emission regulations and the trend toward lower viscosity in internal combustion engine oils,this study employed a one-pot synthesis process to develop a lubricant additive QT411 primarily based on molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate.The elemental composition,chemical valence,molecular structure,thermal stability and micromorphology of QT411 were characterized by ICP-OES,FTIR,XPS,TG,and SEM.Its oil solubility,oxidative stability,corrosion resistance,tribological properties,and system compatibility were systematically evaluated.Ultimately,the additive's practical application value was validated through a 10 000 km road test.Physical and chemical test results indicate that the Mo—S—Mo cyclic structure within the QT411 molecule provides excellent thermal stability,while the longer alkyl chain delivers superior oil solubility.Additionally,it exhibits outstanding copper corrosion resistance and oxidation stability.When QT411 is added into the system of base oil 150N and zinc dialkyl dithiophosphate additive,the oil blending system can form a stable nano-scale MoS2 layered lubricating film on the friction pair surface,and the friction coefficient is reduced by up to 46.3%compared with the system without QT411.When QT411 is added to seven commercial lubricants,the friction coefficient reduction ranges from 20%to 50%,indicating excellent compatibility.A 10 000 km road test demonstrates that after 10 000 km of operation,the viscosity change rate of the L/5W-40 lubricant containing QT411 is 3.2%,and its acid value increases by 0.64 mg/g.Both values are significantly lower than the national standard requirements.This additive product features an environmentally friendly synthesis route and outstanding performance,providing technical support for the large-scale application of molybdenum dialkyl dithiocarbamate and the upgrading of high-end lubricants.关键词
